London The Manchester suicide bomber who killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert in May 2017 had been rescued from the civil war in Libya by Britain's Royal Navy just three years earlier.

Salman Abedi, who was born in Manchester, was 19 when he was evacuated from the Libyan capital of Tripoli by HMS Enterprise in August 2014, along with his younger brother Hashem and more than 100 other British citizens.

The ship took the passengers to Malta where they boarded a flight to the UK.

In a statement a British government spokesperson confirmed the rescue: "During the deteriorating security situation in Libya in 2014, Border Force officials were deployed to assist with the evacuation of British nationals and their dependents."

The government at the time advised British nationals to leave Libya as a result of heavy violence in Tripoli and large-scale military offensives against Islamist groups, the statement added.

Abedi was being monitored by British security services when he traveled to Libya but his case was closed a month before he was rescued.

It was later revealed that the former business and management student had been back in Libya for three weeks before carrying out the attack, returning to the UK just days before he walked into the Manchester Arena where he detonated a bomb that killed parents and children as they left the pop concert.

A review into the Manchester attack concluded that the decision to close Abedi's case as a "subject of interest" was sound, based on the information available to British security services at the time.

Abedi grew up in Manchester with parents who had fled Libya under the late Moammar Gadhafi. His father, Ramadan, had returned to Libya in 2011 after rebels overthrew the government. Ramadan Abedi's wife joined him in early 2017.

Hashem Abedi, Salman's brother, is currently being held in prison in Libya by a militia group, though the British government has requested his extradition to face trial for alleged involvement in the attack.

That outcome may have been different had Mugabe had his way. Instead, Emmerson Mnangagwa, the man who Mugabe fired as his deputy only weeks before his resignation while attempting to have his wife appointed as his successor, now leads the country and the Zanu-PF party.

That candidate is the current president, Mnangagwa, who has attempted to rebrand the ruling Zanu-PF party. He has already survived one attempt on his life ahead of this election when a grenade was thrown at the stage during a campaign rally last month.

The 75-year-old is still widely considered as Mugabe's man given that he worked so closely with him for more than 40 years, first as his special assistant during the 1977 liberation war, and later as security minister and justice minister.

Mnangagwa has pledged to heal divisions and rebuild the country. "Some have eyes but they do not see, others have ears but cannot hear that we are in a new Zimbabwe," he told a Zanu-PF rally last week, Reuters reported. "Together we will rebuild our nation, a new prosperous Zimbabwe for our people."

The news was earlier reported by The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post.

Ivanka and her company have been mired in controversy since she campaigned for her father wearing Ivanka Trump products during high-profile interviews and speeches. Criticism intensified after the election, when she decided to advise her father while retaining ownership of her eponymous brand.

Abigail Klem, the current president of the Ivanka Trump brand, said in a statement on Tuesday that the move "was a very difficult decision for Ivanka."

"We are incredibly proud of the brand we have built and the content and product we've developed for our customers," Klem said, adding, "I know that this was a very difficult decision for Ivanka and I am very grateful for the opportunity to have led such a talented and committed team."

Ivanka Trump's company saw an increase in profits in early 2017 after her father's presidential win, according to a person with direct knowledge. But since that gain, profits have declined, the source added.

Activists targeted Ivanka's clothing, shoe and jewelry lines for boycotts during the 2016 presidential campaign after the release of the now-infamous "Access Hollywood" tape in which her father could be heard bragging about groping women.

The line made headlines again not long after Trump's inauguration, when Nordstrom announced that it was dropping the brand from its stores, citing its performance. That prompted an attack from Trump himself, with the President tweeting that his daughter had "been treated so unfairly" by the department store chain.

After the President's dig at Nordstrom, Trump aide Kellyanne Conway told the American public to "go buy Ivanka's stuff" during an interview on "Fox & Friends." The on-air endorsement prompted a bipartisan backlash with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle calling for a review of whether the comments violated government rules.

The government watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington called the news that Ivanka Trump will be shutting down her company "a notable step in the right direction," but added that it "comes much too late."

"While this is a notable step in the right direction, it's a small one that comes much too late," said Noah Bookbinder, the group's executive director, in a statement.

"The ethics issues that arise from her ownership of the Ivanka Trump Brand also arise from her ownership stake in the Trump Organization, and still more issues arise from her father's ownership of that business. If the Trump family truly cared about ethics, they would fully divest themselves of these assets -- something they should have done before they entered the White House," he added.

Nordstrom isn't the only retailer to distance itself from the brand.

A 15-year-old girl has been imprisoned for six months for having an abortion after her brother repeatedly raped her, according to an Indonesian court official.

The girl was given the custodial sentence last week, according to Listyo Arif Budiman, one of the judges in the case and a spokesman for the Muara Bulian District Court on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

 

The victim's 17-year-old brother, who raped her eight times in the last year, was given a two year sentence for sexual assault of a minor, Budiman said. The prosecution had originally petitioned for a one year sentence for the girl, he added, who had the abortion six months after becoming pregnant.

The siblings, who were both represented by government lawyers, will see out their sentences in a juvenile rehabilitation institute, the spokesman said. They will receive job training to help them integrate back into society, Budiman added.

According to Budiman, neighbors discovered the headless fetus and immediately reported the discovery to the police, who began an investigation. The girl admitted that the fetus was hers after the investigation began.

 

The siblings' mother is currently being investigated for facilitating the abortion.

The girl should not be imprisoned because she is a victim, according to Maidina Rahmawati, head of research for the Institute for Criminal Justice Reform, an independent legal organization which aims to protect the rights of citizens.

She added that while abortion was still a criminal offense in the country, court guidelines require judges to "carefully examine cases involving women, specifically in cases of sexual violence (due to) its complexity."

She told CNN that that it "is clear that the judge involved didn't really examine this case.... they don't look deeper into what things were really happening behind the case."

She added that the prosecution had sought a seven-year sentence for the girls' brother, and that the state could still appeal the sentences.

After about two weeks after the abnormalities surrounding the embattled Finance Minister, Ms Kemi Adeosun, she has broken her silence. Adeosun narrated that she did not apply for the exemption herself and not aware that what the ‘agent’ gave her was not from NYSC.

I was born in London and also had all my education there. I graduated at 22 and started working immediately. When I returned to Nigeria in 2000s, I knew about the national labour law requirements, including NYSC participation or exemption, but didn't know how to go about it.

I relied on 3rd parties to assist and it looks like they took inappropriate steps. I am shocked and equally embarrassed to learn about this. I should have checked before now and I accept the blame for their wrongdoing because they acted on my behalf.

I accept full responsibility for this incident and regret that it even happened in the first place. I am prepared to do whatever that is required to redeem these grave errors.

In a setting in Belgium today the Governor was in a town hall meeting the where he came to adress the Edo state community in Belgium, after making a long speech to adress the Edo community telling them about what is going on in Edo state, the stateaffair and state of things in Edo state like the roads, the hospital.

Many questions was asked by the people that came to the venue of the said town hall meeting, many people travelled from far and near and that also included Dion Osagie who also travelled from Nigeria to attend the townhall meeting, but when it was time for Dion Osagie to ask his question, he started with asking  the Governor to explain why he said he did not know who Dion Osagie is, that question irritated those in charge of the coordinators, who said  Dion Osagie would  not be allowed to ask that question, he became irritated, and said if he is not allowed to ask his question they should take their mic back.

Many people reacted to this development on social media on how bad Dion Osagie was treated, they were asking why the Governors was not allowing Dion to speak, so in depriving Dion from speaking  its shows  he did not want to be embarassed with the questions that Dion Osagie may ask.

If that is so or so we may never know, Dion Osagie left dissapointed, and he says Edo state may never develop, except they change their attitude and behaviour.
