The Edo State government has handed over 70 years old Francis Ezomo, and his two sons; Nosa Ezomo, 26 years old and Festus Ezomo, 29 years old, to the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Johnson Kokumo, for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl, who is a relative of Mr Francis Ezomo’s wife. ...
The Acting Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Basic Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, told journalists after the suspects were handed over to the Police at Government House, Benin City, that the case was reported to her office by the headmistress of the minor. “The issue came to the limelight when the headmistress of the minor's school noticed a change of behaviour in the minor and decided to ask her what the problem was. The nine years old girl narrated her ordeal to the headmistress who then informed the Education Secretary of the local government council where the alleged crime took place. We then swung into action and got the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development involved,” Dr. Oviawe said.
The SUBEB boss added that when “we could not get the necessary action required from the Police, the state government swung into action and these three men were apprehended almost immediately.”
She explained that the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has taken custody of the child who is now in a safe place and assured that SUBEB would ensure that her education is not truncated. "What the men have done is bad and their actions have attempted to destroy the life and future of the minor. The three men took advantage of the child and exposed her to trauma. We have waded into the case to ensure justice prevails,” Oviawe said.
The commissioner of police assured that his men would investigate the allegation and charge the case to court.
“Scientific investigation for the minor was sent to the hospital and a doctor report has shown that her hymen has been broken. The scientific report has established that the minor was sexually abused. We will investigate the case and charge them to court,” Kokumo said, and urged parents not to leave the duty of nurturing their children to teachers in schools.
“Nurturing a child is not just the responsibility of the school, both parents and guardians have a lot of roles to play in the proper training up of our children,” the police boss said.

caption Some of the women rescued were underage girls
Spanish police have rescued 39 women and girls smuggled in from Nigeria and trafficked into sex work by a notorious Nigerian gang.
Europol says the victims were kept in "squalid conditions in caves" and intimidated with voodoo threats.
Gang members forced the women into sex work in order to pay off a 30,000 euro ($37,000; £26,000) debt.
Eighty-nine people, including a famous but as yet unnamed Nigerian DJ, have been arrested.
The DJ is said to have helped move victims to Spain and organise sexual exploitation across the country.
He was caught flying back into Spain after recording a music video.
Investigations began when an underage victim filed a complaint with the police, saying she had been pressured into trafficking by voodoo threats made in Nigeria.
Along with other victims, the girl was transferred from Nigeria to Spain via Libya and Italy.
The operation, which was carried out with police from the UK and Nigeria, is one of the biggest trafficking busts in Europe, says Europol.
'A major blow, but not the end'
By Sam Piranty BBC News
After our investigation in 2016, the UK's National Crime Agency flew to Barcelona to meet Mossos, the Catalan police, who conducted the investigation into the Supreme Eiye Confraternity (SEC).
Information was passed over and the NCA, alongside partners in Madrid, conducted further investigation into the group, leading to these arrests.
This is a major blow to the SEC, but by no means the end.
We know the group have cells, or nests as SEC called them, across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The group regularly moves women and narcotics between different cities in Europe depending on demand.
We know that SEC is back at work in Barcelona, and given time, they will be sure to continue their work in the UK and the rest of Spain.
This is an international network with connections across three continents and without more international cooperation like that between the NCA and Spanish police, the group will continue to thrive. Read Sam's investigation: The world of Nigeria's sex-trafficking 'Air Lords'
Europol says 41 house were searched in 11 Spanish cities and one city in the UK.
According to Europol, the criminal cartel had links to the Eiye brotherhood, one of the most influential groups in Nigeria.
The gang was allegedly operating all over the world and pumping money back into the network.
Bank accounts allegedly used to illegally transfer more than 300,000 euro ($370,000; £260,000) have been blocked.
The Nigerian Deejays Association in Europe brought out a disclaimer about the report and said the said the prominet deejay that was arrested is not known to them, and that all the prominet deejays based in spain are all hard working deejays with family, and none is involved in human trafficking.
WhatsApp cofounder Brian Acton has a message for Facebook users: Delete Facebook.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Acton joined the chorus of voices calling on people to delete the social network. His advice to users to stop using the service is notable because WhatsApp is owned by Facebook.
The social network acquired his company for $19 billion in 2014.
The "delete Facebook" movement is growing due in part to a massive data scraping scandal in which data firm Cambridge Analytica harvested information on 50 million Facebook users without their knowledge.
Acton left Facebook (FB) in September of last year, and recently announced a $50 million investment in secure messaging app Signal and joined the company's foundation.

Facebook is under fire from the public and politicians in the United States and the United Kingdom over its data privacy practices. The company is taking a financial hit, too—Facebook lost $50 billion in market value this week.
Acton is one of a number of tech executives and investors calling out Facebook. On Tuesday, venture capitalist Roger McNamee, a Facebook investor and former mentor to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, said the social network is facing a crisis of public trust "that is going to destroy the company."
Deleting Facebook may not be a viable option for some, but those who want to detach themselves from the Facebook platform would need to delete apps Facebook owns, too, which include WhatsApp and Instagram. Signal is a secure alternative for people who choose to leave WhatsApp.
A Facebook user in Maryland has filed a lawsuit against the social network and Cambridge Analytica for improperly gathering her personal data without permission.
Lauren Price has been on Facebook(FB) for eight years and claims she frequently saw political ads on the social network during the 2016 election. She is suing the companies on behalf of other US Facebook members whose information was also collected by Cambridge Analytica, a data firm that worked with the Trump campaign.
The proposed class-action lawsuit was filed Tuesday at the US District Court in San Jose, California. Price is seeking unspecified damages.

On Friday, it was revealed that data analytics company Cambridge Analytica collected information about 50 million Facebook(FB) users through a Facebook survey, and used that information to try and influence voters in the 2016 US presidential election.
"Facebook had known about this security breach for two years, but did little or nothing to protect its users," says Price's complaint.
This is the first lawsuit brought by a Facebook user over the Cambridge Analytica news, but others are likely to follow. The lawsuit is part of a growing backlash against both companies.
On Tuesday, Facebook(FB) investor Fan Yuan filed a lawsuit against the company in federal court on behalf of other investors. The suit claims Facebook made "misleading statements" and neglected to disclose details about third-party access to data, which caused the company's stock price to fall significantly. Price's complaint adds that the companies have violated the privacy of million of people in the U.S. alone, and that users now have a higher risk of identity theft as a result.
"There's going to be a lot of litigation flowing from this," said attorney Jay Edelson of Edelson PC in Chicago. He is not involved with either case, but his firm does plan on filing related lawsuits in the near future.
"The most direct liability is against Cambridge Analytica. We believe they have violated a host of city, state, and federal laws," said Edelson. "The case against Facebook is less direct. On the surface, many believe that Facebook acted, perhaps, negligently. We believe we will be able to provide more context to how Cambridge Analytica fits Facebook's overall business model." Facebook has previously said that it removed the offending app in 2015 and asked Cambridge Analytica to delete its data. The company told Facebook that the data had been destroyed.
Facebook said it had no comment on Price's lawsuit at this time, but pointed to a previous statement by Facebook deputy general council Paul Grewal.
"We are committed to vigorously enforcing our policies to protect people's information. We will take whatever steps are required to see that this happens," Grewal said on Friday.
Cambridge Analytica did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
