Housewives bathe each other with hot water over lover...Read It All On Tafia World

Two housewives, identified only as Muyibat and Biliki, have suffered severe burns after a fight over a man.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the two women emptied a kettle of hot water on each other during the brawl which occurred at their residence in the Yaba area of Lagos State.
Biliki, who was living with her husband in the Surulere area of the state, relocated to her parents’ house in Abule Oja, Yaba, in 2015, after separating from the husband.
Muyibat lives with her husband and three children in the house.
Our correspondent was told that 32-year-old Biliki accused Muyibat, 29, of marrying her former boyfriend, which caused bad blood between them.
Matters, however, came to a head after a disagreement on Saturday when the duo poured hot water on each other.
They were both admitted to a general hospital in the state.1
Our correspondent gathered that the case was reported at the Sabo Police Division and one of the parties petitioned the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, which mediated in the matter.
Muyibat told PUNCH Metro that their problem started after Biliki accused her of marrying her (Biliki’s) boyfriend.
She said, “Biliki told neighbours that she once dated my husband and that she aborted for him during their relationship.
“She calls me Iyawo Sara1 (free wife).  I have never known peace in that house. She fights me over every minor issue.
“On Saturday, I went to the market with my husband and when we got home, my child started crying.
“Biliki’s younger brother, Ahmed, came out and shouted at him and I cautioned him.
“His sister then picked up a quarrel with me and started raining curses on me. I did not talk because I was observing a fast. While she was abusing me, I sneezed and said, ‘Ausubillahi minashaitani rojeem’ (God, deliver me from the devil).”
Muyibat said Biliki, who is also a Muslim, thought she was referring to her and queried her for calling her a devil.
She alleged that Biliki attacked her in the process.
“I removed the water I was boiling for my vegetables and put it on the table. She (Biliki) held my head from behind and poured the hot water on me.
“Her younger brother slammed a plastic paint on my head, while she drew my hair. Both of them assaulted me,” Muyibat added.
The Kwara State indigene said she was rushed to a private hospital where she was rejected, adding that she later went to the Sabo Police Station to report the case.
Muyibat, who claimed to have passed out on the way to the general hospital, said Biliki had earlier in May threatened to pour acid on her.
However, Biliki, who suffered burns on her breasts, chest and hand, denied the allegations, saying her neighbour was the first to attack her.
She denied ever dating Muyibat’s husband, saying Muyibat was fond of making trouble with her and efforts to reconcile them had always been rebuffed by her.
She said, “I went back to my parents’ house when I had issues with my husband. Because of that, many of the tenants started ridiculing me.
“I was ill that Saturday and was sleeping beside my baby. Her child had come to play with my baby when she called him back. When the child didn’t heed her call, she hit him and the child started crying.
“Another child passing through the passageway was also crying that partcular time. My younger brother asked the other boy to stop crying and Muyibat abused my brother.
“My brother reported her to me and I told him not to reply her. She then started insulting me. We fought and our neighbours came to separate us.
“I was backing her when somebody suddenly shouted, ‘hot water!’ As I turned back with my hands raised, she emptied a kettle of hot water on me. Because my hand was raised when she attacked me, a little of the water splashed on her.”
Biliki said Muyibat also bit her brother while the latter came to separate them, adding that her two phones were smashed by Muyibat.
The Director of the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, Mrs. Olubukola Salami, described the incident as horrific.
She said, “This horrific incident was totally avoidable as either of the parties could have just walked away and lodge a formal complaint at the nearest police station. But they decided to take the law into their hands and the result was unfortunate.
“Domestic violence has repercussions and it’s totally unacceptable anywhere. The Lagos State Government will deal harshly with those who disturb public peace.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.
She added that the victims were both given medical papers for treatment, but they had yet to report back to the station.

A 17-year-old girl, Temitope Saka, has died after drinking insecticide, Sniper, in the Igando area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim left behind a suicide note in which she allegedly blamed her grandma for her death.
Our correspondent gathered that Saka’s boyfriend reported the incident to the police at the Igando division, which led to the arrest of the woman.
It was learnt that the victim’s mother died when she was three years old.
A source explained that Saka, who was the only child of her parents, was taken to her grandmother’s house on Mofoluwasho Close, Alhaji Ede bus stop, Igando.
The source said, “She had been living with her grandma since her mother died. The grandma is a trader in Ikotun, where the girl met her boyfriend, who is also a trader.
“There were times that the girl brought the man home and he spent the night with her because the grandma went for vigils.”
Another source said when the victim became pregnant, her grandma insisted she packed out of the house.
“The woman insisted that she packed to her boyfriend’s house. She threw out her luggage and chased her away,” he said.
Our correspondent learnt that the victim drank the poison last Wednesday and began foaming in the mouth at her boyfriend’s house.
She was said to have been rushed to the Igando General Hospital where she died.
Her boyfriend, who saw the suicide note, was said to have reported the incident to the police.
A resident said, “The girl and the boyfriend loved each other. The man did not even reject the pregnancy.
“The grandma probably chased her away because she could not stand the shame that the girl got pregnant out of wedlock.
“Last Wednesday, while she was at the boyfriend’s house, she started foaming in the mouth and she was taken to the hospital.
“The boyfriend found a suicide note where she accused her grandma of causing her death. He reported to the police.
“The police took the note and arrested the woman. She was in tears at the bus stop as she kept saying she didn’t mean any harm. It was a sad sight.”
A woman on the street told our correspondent that Saka was her parents’ only child.
She said, “Out of all the women her father married, it was only her mother that had a child and she was the only child. She was the hope of the family. Now that she is dead, that hope is gone.”
Our correspondent learnt that it was the second time in less than two months that a pregnant teenager would commit suicide in the area.
On June 18, a 19-year-old girl, Uche Obiora, allegedly took Sniper at her boyfriend’s house, which is a street away from Saka’s grandmother’s house.
A resident, who identified himself as Goddey, appealed to the government to intervene in the increasing rate of teenage suicides in the community.
When our correspondent approached Saka’s relatives at their house on Mofoluwasho Close, they declined comment.
A fair-complexioned woman, who donned a berret, said, “Nothing evil happened to us here. Please leave now. We don’t want to say anything. You can write whatever you have heard. We have nothing to say.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed Saka’s death.
She said, “The victim allegedly drank a substance suspected to be Sniper insecticide.
“She was rushed to the Igando General Hospital for treatment; but she died. Her corpse has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy. Investigation is still ongoing.”

Ex-Plateau gov’s ADC, four children die in house fire...Read It All On Tafia World

Jude Owuamanam, Jos
Tragedy struck on Monday in Jenta Adamu in the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State when a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police, Anthony Kwanmi, and three of his children were burnt to death in an early morning fire that engulfed his house.
However, his wife and one of his children were lucky, as they escaped with burns.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the survivors were admitted at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital (Jankwano), Jos, where they were receiving treatment.
It was learnt that Kwanmi hailed from the Shendam LGA and recently retired from the police force.
An eyewitness said the deceased, who was a former aide-de-camp to ex-civilian governor of the state, Mr. Fidelis Tapgun, was burnt to death together with his children.
The witness, who did not want to be identified, said the fire started after an electric spark from a meter in the house.
He said, “The meter was mounted at the entrance to the building. There was a spark from the meter which started the fire. Because the meter was at the entrance, the fire prevented them from escaping. It quickly spread to other rooms in the house.”
Our correspondent gathered that Kwanmi and his children went to bed and locked their doors at about 2.30am after watching a football match between Nigeria and Sweden in the ongoing Olympics Competition in Rio, Brazil.
However, neighbours were woken up by the cries for help from the children, who were sleeping in a room close to their father’s.
Kwanmi reportedly made spirited efforts to open the door and free himself and the children, but the thick smoke billowing from the fire prevented him.
It was learnt that their charred remains were removed by neighbours, who had to break down the walls of the house to gain entry.
When our correspondent visited the house, all the rooms were in ruins.
PUNCH Metro saw a blanket, which the retired cop reportedly used to cover his nose while attempting to rescue his children.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna, confirmed the incident.
He said, “The ‘A’ Division of the state police command got a call around 3am on Monday and we responded to the distress call. Officials of the state fire service were also mobilised to the burning building; they assisted in putting out the fire.
“The retired police officer and three of his children lost their lives, while his wife and one family member are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.”
While going to press, PUNCH Metro learnt that the fourth child of the retired ASP, had also died.
Online news portal, Eagle Online, reported that the last child, a girl, died at the hospital where she was receiving treatment.
The killed children are, Theresa, Thomas, Emmanuel and Kerry.

Libyans bury decomposing bodies of migrants...Read It All On Tafia World

File: Two unidentified Nigerian siblings aged 11 and 10, rescued in the Mediterranean on Friday after losing their mother while on a dangerous journey to Europe. AFP.

Residents of a Libyan town have buried the decomposing bodies of 21 migrants who had washed up on their beach after authorities failed to act, an NGO and medics said Monday.
The first bodies were spotted on the beach of Al-Maya, just west of the capital Tripoli, on August 2, said a statement from a civil society association in Wersheffana district where Al-Maya is located.
It said in a statement that over the next three days more bodies washed up on the beach, bringing the total to 21, and that they were in an “advanced state of decomposition”.
“The residents became increasingly scared this could spark diseases and epidemics,” it said.
The Libyan Red Crescent in Janzur, a suburb of Tripoli, were informed of the situation and dispatched staff to Al-Maya, said its chief Hussam Nasr.
“We went there to retrieve the bodies and to lift DNA samples,” said Nasr.
“We also tried to get in touch with the authorities to secure a permit to bury the bodies to no avail and the bodies remained on the beach for three days,” he said.
Concerned by the “health hazard” decomposing bodies could pose, residents decided not to wait anymore for an official permit and took matters into their own hands, he said.
On Saturday they buried the unidentified bodies in a cemetery in Al-Maya, where a Muslim funeral service took place.
People smugglers have taken advantage of the chaos gripping Libya since the 2011 uprising that toppled and killed dictator Moamer Kadhafi to boost their lucrative business.
They cram migrants into boats that are small and unsafe for the perilous journey to Italy just 300 kilometres (190 miles) from Libya’s shores.
Thousands of migrants try each year to make the sea crossing but many drown.
A total of 4,027 migrants and refugees have perished since January trying to flee wars and poverty looking for a better life mainly in Europe, the International Organization for Migration said Tuesday.
Of that total, some 3,120 died trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea, including 120 who drowned off Libya’s coastal town of Sabratha at the end of July, it said.
